RAI's board has approved today the appointment of Roberto Sergio as the pubcaster's new CEO. He replaces Carlo Fuortes, who quit last week citing pressure from Italy's new government. The go-ahead has arrived from the Rai board of directors for the appointment of Roberto Sergio as the new managing director, as proposed by the shareholders’ meeting. The vote in the board of directors ended with three votes in favour, one against and two abstentions, which count as a no. Therefore, the favorable vote of the president Marinella Soldi weighs, which in the event of a tie is worth double. Also in favor Simona Agnes, in Forza Italia share, and Igor De Biasio, in Lega share. Contrary Francesca Bria, appointed to the Pd share, while Alessandro Di Majo, to the M5S share, and the director Riccardo Laganà, elected by the employees, abstained.
The new Rai managing director, Roberto Sergio, announced his intention to appoint Paola Marchesini as managing director of the staff and to entrust Giampaolo Rossi with the role of corporate general manager, a role previously held ad interim by the managing director. Viale Mazzini announces that the Rai board of directors “thanks the outgoing managing director Carlo Fuortes for the role played”.
The new Rai CEO, Roberto Sergio, spoke to the board of directors in the afternoon and listed some of his priorities, indicating the service contract and business plan, as well as the finalization of the 2023/2024 schedules. Sergio then underlined that he will immediately get to work on the sustainability plan and on the digital transition. The CEO also let it be known that he wants to start an immediate dialogue with the union representatives, who called a general strike on 26 May.
