My Boyfriend Is Better successfully launched last year in Korea on CJ ENM’s affiliate music channel Mnet, captivating viewers with its innovative format structure, and garnered widespread acclaim for its refreshing approach.
The remake comes as CJ ENM and Workpoint continue their prolific partnership from the long-running production and broadcast of the popular show, I Can See Your Voice. Marking the first format license deal overseas of My Boyfriend Is Better, anticipation is soaring on the two companies’ collaboration to bring a new singing game show to Thailand.
My Boyfriend Is Better is CJ ENM's format that combines singing and betting among the real couples. The show features five girlfriends, eager to showcase their boyfriends' singing talents: each couple participates in four rounds of stage competitions, armed with couple money to wager on the winners of each stage. The girlfriend who successfully bets on the winner (whether it is her own boyfriend or not) receives all the game money as a prize. The show was awarded as Best General Entertainment, Game or Quiz Program at 2022 Asian Academy Creative Awards.
Diane Min, Head of Format Sales at CJ ENM, stated: "We are absolutely thrilled to announce our very first format license deal for My Boyfriend is Better. The launch of My Boyfriend Is Better in Thailand will serve as a fantastic catalyst for the format's global expansion. The first foreign adaptation of MBIB holds significant meaning as it exemplifies CJ ENM’s ongoing commitment to innovate and introduce fresh formats on the international stage. Being a fan of the format myself, I am eagerly waiting for the adaptation of the show to premiere in Thailand."
Vichanee Srisawat, CMO Workpoint TV, mentioned: “My Boyfriend Is Better is a good combination between singing competition and game show, with Workpoint style local adaptation plus our three decades’ production experiences, we believe the viewers will enjoy this outrageously fun show.”
