TV Azteca has commissioned the first Latin American version of the reality show Married at First Sight, distributed by Red Arrow International. The show locally titled Casados a Primera Vista (14×120′) is produced by Endemol Shine Boomdog and will be aired on Azteca Uno on Sunday night primetime from September 17. The format was originally created by Copenhagen-based prodco Snowman Productions for Danish pubcaster DR in 2013. The Mexican deal marks the 32nd commission for the format, which is now produced locally across five continents. Recent remakes include Married at First Sight in South Africa, which was commissioned by Mnet’s Mzansi Magic channel. In the show, single participants tie the knot with partners selected for them by relationship experts, meeting for the first time on their wedding day.
“Undoubtedly, the tireless search for love, falling in love, relationships and the much-desired wedding is a subject that generates great emotion,” said Adrián Ortega, director general of content at TV Azteca.
Tim Gerhartz, MD at Red Arrow Studios International, said: “Married at First Sight’s global footprint continues to grow and grow as the format proves itself to be more than just a TV show for broadcasters around the world – it has really cemented its position as a mega-format and a channel-defining brand.”
