During its annual Showcase event, BBC Studios unveiled Greece as the 10th international territory to license Magnum Media’s renowned format, The 1% Club.
Greece's Star Channel has secured the rights to the quiz show, which is set to be produced by Green Pixel Productions. Viewers can anticipate the Greek version to hit screens in autumn 2024.
André Renaud, Senior Vice President of Global Format Sales at BBC Studios, said: "This marks a significant milestone as Greece's Star Channel becomes the tenth country to commission 'The 1% Club' at the very event where it all began. We're excited to witness Star Channel and Green Pixel Productions deliver a stellar show, and I'm eager to see who among the Greek audience will rise to the challenge and join The 1% Club."
Karolos Alkalai, General Manager of Star Channel, expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating, "We're thrilled to introduce 'The 1% Club' to Greek audiences. It's a refreshing game show that values wit and common sense over mere knowledge, aligning perfectly with Star Channel's commitment to delivering quality entertainment. With its global success, we're confident it will resonate with Greek viewers."
"The 1% Club" continues to captivate international broadcasters, with recent announcements revealing its expansion to Mexico's Azteca TV and numerous other territories including Australia, France, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, and the USA.
In the UK, the acclaimed series garnered immense popularity, clinching a National Television Award and drawing in a consolidated audience of 4.5 million with a 31% share on ITV1. Its third series debuted to record-breaking viewership, with its play-along live App consistently ranking among the top three free Apps in the UK on Saturday nights.
As part of BBC Studios' Showcase 2024, The 1% Club joins a lineup of compelling unscripted formats, including Will You Marry Me?, Bargain King, and Uncanny, offering international audiences a diverse array of entertainment options.
