K7 Media Unveils the Top Formats - The Traitors ranks first
Michelle Lin, Associate Director of Operations on the consultancy firm, K7 presented the annual report about trends and formats "Tracking the Giants" during a conference at MIPFormats. During her session she highlighted the most successful formats of the year, starting from All3media's The Traitors that continues to conquer markets, which 11 local versions in 2023, displacing The Masked Singer, which had been leading as the most in-demand format for four years. She reported that the number of premieres that the British format, original from Studio Lambert, reached 57%, with premieres in MAX (Spain), in Finland and Germany. In fact, the title will have at least nine releases this year, increasing the number of adaptations in the world.

Banijay's Good Luck Guys emerges as The Rising Format Star, boasting six new adaptations, while Talpa Studios' The Floor is positioned to dominate 2024 as The Format to Watch, backed by recent launches and confirmed sales, with ten new commissions following its successful premiere on RTL4 in the Netherlands.

The report underscores the resurgence of format revivals, with Fremantle's Family Feud leading the charge as Revival of the Year. With a total of nine new adaptations, including revivals and expansions into new markets, Family Feud showcases the enduring appeal and adaptability of timeless formats.

Germany, Spain, and Belgium emerge as the leading importers of new formats, signaling a slight shift in rankings with Spain's rise and The Netherlands' decline. This trend suggests a thriving domestic format market in The Netherlands, where locally produced launches are gradually replacing imports. Spain experiences notable growth, with a significant portion of imports originating from the UK and Dutch markets.

As the industry anticipates the next wave of groundbreaking formats, Tracking the Giants remains an indispensable resource, offering invaluable insights into the evolving world of television programming.
