Dash Pictures has announced the commencement of production for the feature documentary tentatively titled The King of All Cons, in collaboration with Matthew Lorenzo Productions and Sky.
Scheduled for release on Sky Documentaries and NOW in 2025, this Sky Original film delves into the remarkable saga of businessman Russell King during the 1990s. King's audacious exploits include deceiving a stock market-listed bank, outwitting an England football manager and a former Head of Military Intelligence, acquiring a football club, and orchestrating a trillion-dollar deal to exploit North Korea's mineral resources.
Producer Matt Lorenzo, formerly a Sky Sports presenter, possesses unprecedented access to this captivating narrative and its central figures. His firsthand involvement—having been hired by King for PR duties—allows for a gripping firsthand retelling of the astonishing chain of events.
Utilizing a blend of archival footage and interviews with key figures such as Sven Goran Eriksson and England footballer Sol Campbell, the documentary traverses a narrative landscape spanning the opulence of Bahrain, The Dorchester Hotel, Formula 1 circuits, and the financial hub of the City, to the modest confines of Meadow Lane, home to the world's oldest football club, Notts County. The journey also ventures into the heart of darkness, North Korea, widely regarded as one of the most perilous nations on Earth.
The King of All Cons (working title) was commissioned for Sky Documentaries by Zai Bennett, Sky’s Managing Director of Content, Jamie Morris, Director of Programmes, and Jack Oliver, Head of Co-Productions. This Sky Original is produced by Dash Pictures, Matthew Lorenzo Productions, and Sky, with Daniel Sharp and Matthew Lorenzo serving as executive producers.
