Ask the Sand is the journey of a father and son in search of the utopian city of Arcosanti, the city of the future built in 1970 in the Arizona desert by the Italian architect Paolo Soleri (1919-2013), a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. The documentary, presented at the last Biografilm Festival and directed by Vittorio Bongiorno, will be aired on Sky Arte on Saturday, April 27, exclusively on Sky and streaming only on NOW.
It's a road trip by Vittorio with his son Giulio, accompanied by the soundtrack of Calexico, Naim Amor & John Convertino, and Joachim Cooder, which also serves as a birthday gift to a son transitioning into manhood. Soleri is one of the most important figures of the twentieth century - still largely forgotten - portrayed through the fresh eyes of an aspiring architect with antennas tuned into what is happening in the world and what each of us can do to contribute to its improvement.
