France’s Mediawan and Germany’s Leonine Studios have agreed to merge in an all-stock deal, creating a European production giant boasting 85 production labels across 13 countries. The move builds upon Mediawan’s initial acquisition of a quarter of Leonine in 2020, led by Mediawan CEO Pierre-Antoine Capton and Leonine's Fred Kogel.
Leonine Studios, formed through the consolidation of several German companies, brings a significant catalog to the table, including acclaimed titles like The Lives of Others and ownership of US hits such as the John Wick franchise. The combined entity will have an extensive library of 30,000 hours of content and projected revenues exceeding €1bn.
This acquisition aligns with Mediawan's strategy to establish itself as a major player in European content production, expanding its footprint to key markets across the continent and beyond. With a strengthened position, the newly formed entity aims to attract top creative talent and offer premium content across genres.
The deal is pending regulatory approvals in Germany, Austria, and other relevant authorities. Upon completion, it promises exciting opportunities for partners and customers, signaling a significant milestone in both companies' growth trajectories.
