Korea’s Something Special Wins Two KOCCA Funds

Korea’s Something Special Wins Two KOCCA Funds
InSoon Kim, EVP – Head of Content for Something Special, announced that the company has won two KOCCA annual funds. Something Special received the Format Lab fund for the fifth year in a row and also secured the Pilot fund. KOCCA allows only two funds per year for one company, making this a notable achievement.

For the Format Lab, Something Special chose four teams of top Korean producers, including Sook-kyung Kang (creator of Physical 100) and Hyunsook Ji (creator of Singles Inferno). They will work with Something Special’s producers to develop original Korean content for international audiences. Previous successful formats from the Format Lab include Still Alive, a spooky reality game show, and The Beatbox, a music game show, which have been picked up in Germany, Spain, and more.
Kim said: “Winning these prestigious KOCCA funds for five years in a row shows the strength of our company. We are committed to developing original Korean content that can succeed globally. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements!”
Additionally, Something Special won the Format Production Fund to produce a pilot with a leading Korean production company.

The UK version of Battle in the Box is set to air on July 16th and 17th, hosted by comedian Jimmy Carr. This show, originally created by Nmedia and represented by Something Special, was a hit in South Korea on MBN.

Format Highlights:

Still Alive: A reality game show where contestants solve clues and face challenges in a mysterious mansion.

Battle in the Box: A game show where two celebrity teams compete for food and household items in an empty box divided by a movable wall.
