Italian illustrator Lorenzo Mattotti has designed the official poster for the 81st Venice International Film Festival (August 28 – September 7, 2024), featuring "An Elephant in the Lagoon." Mattotti, also the creative designer of the festival's opening sequence, continues his long-standing collaboration with the festival.
Mattotti explains that the elephant, inspired by a real event from the 1981 Biennale Carnival, symbolizes memory, history, and the convergence of different cultures and stories in cinema.
Lorenzo Mattotti, based in Paris, began his career in the late 1970s and has received international acclaim for his work in comics, illustration, and cinema. His notable projects include contributions to "Eros" by Wong Kar-Wai, Soderbergh, and Antonioni, and his animated feature "The Bears' Famous Invasion of Sicily." Mattotti's artwork is widely published and exhibited globally, including at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
