On the closing day of the event, the founder of Giffoni, Claudio Gubitosi, presented an overwhelmingly positive assessment of the 54th edition of the Giffoni Film Festival and announced his efforts to restore funding from the Ministry of Culture.
Claudio Gubitosi expressed immense satisfaction with the recent edition of Giffoni, describing it as magical. He noted that the program launched on July 9th represented one of the most significant creative, organizational, and economic efforts ever undertaken. The energy and extraordinary participation surpassed all previous editions, with thousands of families, young people, and children experiencing joy and engagement in all the festival's offerings, from the Impact section to the new sports category, fostering social well-being throughout the ten-day event.
Gubitosi highlighted the festival's significant impact, mentioning the over 300 guests from various fields, more than 50 directors of competing films, numerous premieres, and many social projects focusing on special needs. He emphasized that the festival's success was made possible through significant funding from the Campania Region, secured by President Vincenzo De Luca in May.
However, Gubitosi expressed concerns about the actions of the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, who he claimed imposed a funding cap that created financial challenges for the festival. He pointed out that Giffoni had consistently received high evaluations and substantial funding in previous years, but this year faced unexpected cuts just days before the festival began. Gubitosi perceived this as a politically motivated decision, possibly linked to his support for regional initiatives.
Gubitosi called for the reinstatement of the festival's funding, emphasizing Giffoni's significant contributions to the region's cultural and economic development. He announced his intention to stage a protest in front of the Ministry of Culture to secure the necessary funding, stating that he would not leave until he received assurances that the financial support would be restored.
In conclusion, Gubitosi urged all stakeholders to support Giffoni and raise awareness about the funding issues threatening the festival's future. He reiterated his commitment to dialogue and institutional respect, despite the challenges faced, and highlighted Giffoni's importance as a cultural heritage for everyone.
