CJ ENM announces the first international adaptation of its beloved reality format Youn's Kitchen, which will be remade in Taiwan under the title "Ai's Kitchen." The Taiwanese adaptation is produced by Titan Creative Entertainment, and is set to premiere on October 5th on SET (Sanlih Entertainment Television), Netflix (in Asian Territories) and CTS (Chinese Television System Inc.)
The show aims to showcase Chinese cuisine to a global audience, led by the Chinese actress Sylvia Chang, with filming taking place on the scenic island of Koh Samui in Thailand. She will operate a restaurant along with Da-lu Wang (Darren Wang) of Our Times, and Ko Chia-yen (Alice Ko) of Someday or One Day. Actor Tony Yang (Yo Yang) of Formula 17 will join as a participant actor.
The original Korean format, featured iconic stars Yoon Yuh-jung, Lee Seo-jin, Jung Yu-mi, and Park Seo-jun. This groundbreaking show, which aired on the No.1 K-content channel tvN, captivated audiences with its unique concept of untrained actors running a Korean restaurant in a remote location, achieving high ratings and widespread critical acclaim.
"We are thrilled to see 'Youn's Kitchen' being adapted for the first time internationally," said Diane Min, Head of Format Sales at CJ ENM. "The original series was a tremendous success in Korea, and we are confident that 'Ai's Kitchen' will bring the same level of charm and entertainment to Taiwanese audiences. We look forward to seeing how this local version will resonate with viewers and bring a fresh perspective to the format."
Producer B2 stated, "Sylvia Chang is not only the most representative Chinese actress, but also highly skilled in cooking. She was our only choice at the time!" He even mentioned that if she had refused to participate in the show, they would postpone the project. Fortunately, Sylvia Chang did not take long to be persuaded. "She loves cooking and has always dreamed of owning a restaurant! She was very interested in the content and spent a lot of time discussing whether she could make a breakthrough. The main focus of the discussions was on the dishes and how to make them appealing to foreigners. She agreed to join the show after these extensive discussions."
CJ ENM looks forward to the continued success of "Youn's Kitchen" as it expands to new markets and brings diverse culinary experiences to viewers around the world.
