Madrid Audiovisual Cluster Presented at Iberseries 2024
On the first day of Iberseries & Platino Industria 2024, Madrid’s Mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, officially presented the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, a key initiative promoted by the City Council and the Community of Madrid.

During the presentation, the Mayor emphasized the city's strong institutional support for the audiovisual sector, highlighting its strategic importance both as a generator of economic activity and as a global showcase for the capital. He noted that Madrid is no longer "one of the world's best-kept secrets" thanks to its increasing presence in national and international audiovisual productions.

The Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, which was established on March 30, 2023, brings together 59 founding entities that span the entire value chain of the audiovisual sector. These include production companies, distributors, broadcasters, streaming platforms, rights management entities, financial institutions, universities, and tech and animation companies. The initiative aims to enhance collaboration and foster synergies across the sector, while also promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.

Mayor Martínez-Almeida outlined the Cluster's primary objectives: to organize the audiovisual sector in Madrid through a comprehensive structure that encourages collaboration and the sharing of knowledge, talent, and innovation. The Cluster is designed to create jobs, support existing and new companies, and develop projects that benefit both the sector and its stakeholders. Ultimately, it aims to position Madrid as a global reference point in the audiovisual market, strengthening its role as a platform for international co-productions.

According to the latest data from Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE), Madrid accounts for 73% of all audiovisual businesses in the country and employs 45% of the sector’s workforce. The industry’s connections to other economic areas, such as tourism, further reinforce Madrid’s role as a driving force for the Spanish economy and as the country’s capital for film and television production.

The city of Madrid continues to attract a growing number of film and television shoots. Between January and July 2024, the City Council handled over 5,600 filming requests, a 4% increase compared to the same period last year. More than 670 projects were filmed during this time, including 33 series, 24 films, and over 260 commercials. International co-productions have also played a significant role, with nearly 50% of the feature films shot in Madrid in 2023 being collaborations with countries from Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
