All3Media International Expands Hit Format Liar with Four New Adaptations, Including First Production in Africa
All3Media International has announced that four new versions of Two Brothers Pictures’ hit format Liar are in development, bringing the total number of global adaptations to 15. A landmark production is underway in Botswana with Botswana Ignite, marking the first time this acclaimed scripted format will be adapted in Africa. It also represents the first instance of one of All3Media International’s scripted formats being produced in Sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, new versions of Liar are being developed across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

These adaptations join 10 other territories where the format has previously been launched, including India, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Greece, Slovakia, Turkey, Malaysia, and Georgia. Originally produced in the UK by Two Brothers Pictures for ITV, Liar delves into themes of consent and contemporary gender politics, exploring the life-altering consequences of a brief romantic encounter.

Duncan Irvine, Executive Producer and Project Director of Botswana Ignite (and former founder of Rapid Blue), expressed his excitement about bringing this compelling drama to Botswana: “Liar is an international drama with a phenomenal pedigree, and being produced by such an experienced team will not only provide a captivating series for Botswana but also offer a valuable learning opportunity and springboard for the local film industry.”

Maartje Horchner, EVP Content at All3Media International, highlighted the global appeal of the series: “The universally resonant storytelling and adaptability of Liar are underscored by these four new versions. With past international partners delivering impeccably crafted adaptations, we are confident these latest versions will also offer powerful and culturally relevant narratives for new audiences.”

All3Media International’s scripted formats have enjoyed significant success. The Malaysian adaptation of Liar won Best Adaptation of an Existing Format at last year’s Asian Academy Creative Awards. Additionally, Angela Black premiered in Spain on Atresmedia this year, and past highlights include Masoom, the Indian adaptation of Blood, which became Disney+ Hotstar’s top Hindi series. Further acclaim was garnered by Mithya (the Indian adaptation of Cheat) and Kafkas (the Indian version of Dark Money), both of which received critical praise and awards recognition.
