Sky's New Series Piedone is a Tribute to a Classic Icon
Sky Original's Piedone-Uno sbirro a Napoli will premiere on December 2 on Sky Cinema Uno and Streaming on NOW.

This new Sky Original is produced by Sky Studios, Wildside (part of the Fremantle Group), and Titanus Production (part of Titanus Group). Directed by Alessio Maria Federici (Non ci resta che il crimine, Generazione 56K), the four-episode series stars Salvatore Esposito, Silvia D’Amico, and Fabio Balsamo, promising an engaging blend of nostalgia and gritty crime drama.

Esposito, known for his powerful roles in Gomorra – La serie, Fargo, and Spaccapietre, plays Vincenzo Palmieri, a police inspector and the spiritual successor to Commissioner Rizzo, the legendary "Piedone" made famous by Bud Spencer in Piedone Lo Sbirro (1973). The character, crafted as a tribute to the original, brings a unique touch to the role while honoring the legacy of the larger-than-life Neapolitan commissioner. Esposito’s Palmieri navigates the challenges of returning to his hometown of Naples, where he must reconcile with his past and earn the trust of his new police team.

Silvia D’Amico (Christian, Comandante, A casa tutti bene – La serie) portrays Commissioner Sonia Ascarelli, a determined leader of the police detachment at the Naples port, whose contrasting personality and methods create a dynamic tension with Palmieri. Alongside them, Fabio Balsamo (Generazione 56K, Pesci piccoli) plays the enthusiastic Assistant Inspector Michele Noviello, adding both comic relief and camaraderie to the series.

The story concept was developed by a talented team, including Salvatore Esposito, Giuseppe Pedersoli, Peppe Fiore, Laura Grimaldi, Paolo Piccirillo, and Jacopo Sonnino, while the screenplay was penned by Fiore, Grimaldi, Piccirillo, and Sonnino. Federici’s directorial touch is expected to bring depth to the characters and a modern sensibility to the vibrant yet complex setting of Naples.

The story revolves around Vincenzo, who returns to Naples, but this is not just a new assignment; it’s a chance to confront his past and the legacy of his mentor, the beloved "Piedone." Through unconventional methods and a deeply rooted connection to his city, Palmieri tackles crime in a way that challenges norms and evokes a deep sense of justice. However, his methods clash with the by-the-book Commissioner Ascarelli, sparking conflicts that drive the drama. As the two characters pursue justice, their investigations unfold in an unpredictable narrative with surprises and heartfelt moments.
