At Conecta Digital in Madrid (November, 5-6, 2024) an expert panel explored the evolving landscape of digital entertainment formats and the new dynamics that shape the industry. Moderated by Borja Moreno Martinez from Prensario International, the panel brought together insights from digital content leaders, including Pilar Sanchez Macias from YouTube, Paula Guinot and Rosendo Fernandez from Slurp Network, and Maria Subinas from VIZZ. Together, they examined how digital platforms, new content creators, and innovative approaches are redefining the entertainment industry.
The panel began with a discussion on increasing the reach and impact of digital content, citing popular influencers like El Rubioand IlloJuan as examples of how modern content creation has shifted to meet the preferences of younger audiences. These creators have amassed enormous followings by capitalizing on engagement-driven formats and tapping into the immediacy of platforms like YouTube and Twitch. Sanchez Macias highlighted that digital platforms are not just content distributors but powerful engines for audience connection, with YouTube providing tools for creators to manage engagement and copyright effectively.
A standout example of how digital content can impact younger audiences was the Kings League, a project led by well-known Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos. Paula Guinot and Rosendo Fernandez explained that Slurp Network, a media agency managing channels like YouTube for brands such as Samsung, collaborated with Kings League to expand its reach. Initially, the Kings League faced challenges around copyright and broadcasting logistics due to platform limitations, as it was primarily streamed on Twitch. Slurp Network stepped in with a solution that involved adapting the content for YouTube, allowing Kings League to capitalize on YouTube’s broader audience and copyright management tools.
By transitioning the Kings League content to YouTube, Slurp Network was able to enhance the accessibility of the league, reaching viewers on both Twitch and YouTube. This move not only solved copyright concerns but also enabled Kings League to connect with a wider, younger demographic. The shift led to significant success and opened the door for similar initiatives in Italy, France, and other countries.
Maria Subinas from VIZZ, a digital content agency, highlighted the role of agencies in providing expertise and tools to help creators optimize their reach. VIZZ, which manages content across multiple platforms, helps creators like those in the Kings League gain visibility by leveraging an understanding of platform algorithms and viewer preferences. Subinas emphasized that agencies like VIZZ play a crucial role in navigating the technical and legal landscape, providing tools that empower creators to focus on engaging their audience rather than worrying about copyright or distribution logistics.
One of the most pressing issues discussed was copyright in the digital age, particularly for high-visibility projects like the Kings League. Sanchez Macias pointed out that, while digital platforms have made strides in safeguarding intellectual property, challenges remain, especially when dealing with live content and international audiences. The panelists agreed that companies like Slurp and VIZZ not only provide creators with tools to manage copyright but also bring valuable knowledge of platform-specific rules, such as YouTube’s Content ID, to ensure compliance and avoid strikes that could limit the content’s reach.
