Created by Kjartansson (Trapped, Katla), Haze is set in modern-day Iceland and delves into the drug trade while examining themes of corruption and moral ambiguities. The story follows three childhood friends—now a pharmaceutical CEO, a doctor, and a drug dealer—whose lives are intertwined when a buried secret resurfaces, leading to profound and dangerous consequences.
The project boasts a distinguished creative team, including producer Erlingur Jack Gudmundsson (Operation Napoleon), writers Gagga Jonsdottir (Trapped S3) and David Mar Stefansson (Gangs of London S3), and director Óskar Thor Axelsson (Trapped S1 & 2).
For yes Studios, Haze represents its first foray into international drama, signaling a new strategic direction. The studio, known for acclaimed domestic hits like Fauda, Shtisel, and The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem, plans to broaden its portfolio with premium global content. Sharon Levi, managing director of yes Studios, expressed excitement about Haze, praising its compelling storytelling and the talented team behind it.
Filming for Haze begins in summer 2025, with release slated for 2026. yes Studios holds international distribution rights (excluding Benelux, handled by Lumiere) and format rights for potential adaptations. At Content London, the company will also explore other international scripted projects as part of its expanding strategy.
Kjartansson noted that Haze aims to explore the blurred lines between the legal pharmaceutical industry and the illicit drug world. Both he and producer Gudmundsson expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with yes Studios to bring their project to a global audience.
