Channel 4's YouTube
UK linear broadcaster Channel 4 is piloting a celebrity prank show that originated on its YouTube channel Channel 4.0 (see an episode below). Titled Tapped Out Prank Stars, the show is a supercharged version of the format that originated on its own YouTube platform, with rapper ArrDee, comedian Fatiha El-Ghorri and JLS singer Aston Merrygold taking on extreme challenges in front of a studio audience.

Hosted by Nella Rose, Tapped Out sees celebrities pushed to their limits with tricky prank challenges. The longer they can last before deciding to 'tap out' the better, as the celebrity contestant who survives the longest of the increasingly embarrassing tasks is crowned champion. The loser will face a final elimination. The pilot is expected to air around Christmas.

Once again we find the same pattern: a typical traditional TV genre (the prank show) made more 'modern' and appealing thanks to an internet personality (Nella Rose). In this case, however, Channel 4 created it 'on its own', first launching it on its own streaming platform, Channel 4.0, and then transferring it to the linear channel.

A very clever strategy, and one that will be increasingly adopted by broadcasters looking to move with the times.
