Hosted by actress and presenter Fernanda Souza, the format begins in the classic way: on a deserted island, six families compete in different challenges and test their limits in search of the final prize of 500.000 reais (almost €100.000). But there is an unexpected twist when an extra suitcase appears and they discover that both sons-in-law and daughters-in-law will be stuck with their worst nightmare: their mothers-in-law, who will be their partners in the competition. The unlikely trio will have to work as a team and put aside their differences. A funny turn of events that brings a breath of fresh air to a genre that too often uses overly serious and dramatic tones (and often a bit of the same).
The irony has been appreciated by viewers, with the format entering the top 10 most watched non-English language series in the first two weeks of the first season. According to the streaming service's own figures, the show reached 1.8 million views and 6.4 million hours between 9 and 15 October last year.
Now the original Brazilian production is getting a second season, filmed on an island in the north-eastern Brazilian state of Alagoas, which will premiere on 2 January 2025, with eight new episodes to be released in two parts. Fernanda Souza remains as host, but the producer has changed: Floresta (the first series was Mixer Films). And also the winning mix of adventure and irony seems to remain the same.
