This year, Iberseries & Platino Industria and Audiovisual from Spain are set to held a showcase at Berlinale Series Market 2025.

The Showcase Spanish Thrillers panel will spotlight two highly anticipated Spanish productions that exemplify the genre’s international appeal. These include:

Internal Affairs (Asuntos Internos) – Produced by Mediacrest Entertainment and RTVE, this gripping crime drama will feature insights from Cristian Liarte (Global Business Development Director, Mediacrest) and José Pastor (Director of Cinema and Fiction, RTVE).

Shades (Matices) – A psychological thriller produced by Secuoya Studios, StellarMedia, SkyShowtime, and Beta Film, with speakers including María García-Castrillón (Director of Co-productions, Secuoya Studios), Sergio Cánovas (Showrunner and Director), and Christian Gockel (EVP Acquisitions & Sales, Beta Film).

The session will be moderated by John Hopewell, International Features Editor at Variety, ensuring in-depth discussions on the evolving landscape of Spanish thrillers.

Internal Affairs is a six-episode police thriller set in the late 1970s, a time of deep social transformation in Spain. The series follows a young female police commissioner navigating the challenges of a working-class neighborhood during Spain’s democratic transition. The story sheds light on the first women who joined the country’s National Police, making history in a male-dominated force.

Created by Pedro García Ríos and Rodrigo Martín Antoranz and directed by María Togores and Samantha López Speranza, the show features a stellar cast, including Laia Manzanares, Silvia Abascal, Nacho Fresneda, Luis Callejo, Carla Campra, and Marta Poveda, alongside special appearances by Manuela Vellés and Miki Esparbé. The series has already garnered acclaim at various European industry events ahead of its February 12 premiere on RTVE.

The other title, Secrets and Deception (SkyShowtime), is an eight-episode psychological thriller that delves into the minds of six patients undergoing an exclusive psychiatric treatment. The group gathers at an isolated winery, led by a renowned psychiatrist whose revolutionary method boasts an impressive success rate. However, a tragic event during a ceremonial wine tasting alters the course of their stay, leading to a gripping police investigation. As the inspector digs deeper, the show reveals the hidden traumas of both the patients and the psychiatrist, uncovering a complex web of deception.

Created by Sergio Cánovas, Alex Meriweather, and Javier Naya, and directed by Sergio Cánovas, the series stars Maxi Iglesias, Miriam Giovanelli, Juana Acosta, Hovik Keuchkerian, Fariba Sheikhan, Eusebio Poncela, Enrique Arce, Raúl Prieto, and Elsa Pataky.
