Starting from April 15 2025, Rai 1 presents Fuochi d’artificio ("Fireworks"), a poignant miniseries directed by Susanna Nicchiarelli. Adapted from Andrea Bouchard’s novel, the series commemorates the 80th anniversary of Italy’s Liberation by portraying the courage of young partisans during World War II. The 6-episode series is scheduled to air over three evenings: April 15, 22, and 25, 2025, aligning with national celebrations of the Liberation. Debut: 2.961.000 viewers and 17% of share.
Set in the 1944 Piedmont Alps, Fireworks follows four adolescents—Marta, Davide, Sara, and Marco—who yearn for the war's end and the return of their loved ones. Realizing their youth allows them to evade suspicion, they clandestinely support the Resistance, adopting the collective alias "Sandokan," a fictional rebel challenging Nazi and Fascist forces. Through perilous missions and acts of bravery, these youths contribute to Italy's fight for freedom, with the narrative centered on 13-year-old Marta's perspective.
Filming commenced on May 8, 2023, and concluded in mid-October 2023. The series was shot entirely in the Piedmont region, featuring locations such as the Susa Valley, Val Chisone, and towns like Bardonecchia, Cesana, Exilles, and Sestriere. The production was a collaborative effort between Fandango and Matrioska, with support from Rai Fiction and the Film Commission Torino Piemonte. The ensemble cast includes: Anna Losano as Marta, Luca Charles Brucini, Carlotta Dosi, Lorenzo Enrico, Carla Signoris, Bebo Storti, Alessandro Tedeschi, Barbara Ronchi, Francesco Centorame, Paolo Briguglia, Cristina Pasino, Bruno Orlando.
Episodes of Fireworks will be accessible for live streaming and on-demand viewing on RaiPlay, coinciding with their television broadcast.
