Diamanti, the most-watched Italian film in cinemas in 2024, marks the return of director Ferzan Ozpetek. The film will premiere on television on Sunday, April 20 at 9:15 PM on Sky Cinema Uno, and will also be available for streaming on NOW and on demand, including in 4K on Sky.
Written by Ozpetek along with Carlotta Corradi and Elisa Casseri, Diamanti is set in a costume workshop for film and theatre. The story follows two sisters, Alberta and Gabriella Canova, played by Luisa Ranieri and Jasmine Trinca, who run the atelier. Around them are the stories of the women and men who work in the workshop and the clients who pass through it. These intersecting narratives create a broader picture of personal relationships, daily work, and connections that form over time.
The cast includes several well-known Italian actresses. Lunetta Savino plays the embroiderer Eleonora, Paola Minaccioni is head seamstress Nina, Milena Mancini and Geppi Cucciari play tailors Nicoletta and Fausta, and Anna Ferzetti is Paolina, a milliner and single mother. Vanessa Scalera appears as costume designer Bianca Vega, Carla Signoris plays stage actress Alida Borghese, and Kasia Smutniak is film actress Sofia Volpi. Mara Venier plays the cook Silvana, while Milena Vukotic is Olga, aunt of the two sisters.
On the male side, Stefano Accorsi plays Lorenzo, a film director; Vinicio Marchioni plays Bruno, Nicoletta’s husband; and Luca Barbarossa plays Lucio, Gabriella’s husband.
Diamanti is produced by Greenboo Production, Faros Film, and Vision Distribution, in collaboration with Sky.
The film follows a director who brings together several actresses from his past projects. He tells them little about the film he wants to make, observing them instead as they interact and remembering their past roles. Eventually, they are imagined into a different time period, in a workshop where women work behind the scenes in cinema and theatre, while male characters play smaller roles. The story focuses on their personal and professional lives, highlighting the tensions, emotions, and dynamics of shared spaces.
Also available on Sky is The Istanbul Trilogy, three short films directed by Ozpetek, dedicated to his birthplace. These shorts—Meze, Muzik, and Muhabbet—explore themes of relationships, memory, and cultural identity. Each short reflects a core element of Turkish culture: food, music, and conversation.
