French Canadian production company Avanti Ciné Vidéo snapped up the local rights for Armoza Formats’ new factual-entertainment format The Surprise Teacher, marking the first deal for the title.
Each week on The Surprise Teacher, a new celebrity pops in on a class of high school students to be their substitute teacher, disrupting their usual studies with a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The celebrity delivers a master class that reflects his or her passion and experiences. The format was originally produced by Palomar Productions and will air on Italy’s Rai 2 in prime time starting May 16.
Monic Lamoureux, the executive director at Avanti, said, “We are happy to be the first ones to pick up such a moving format as The Surprise Teacher and to work with Armoza to bring it to our viewers in Canada.”
Avi Armoza, the CEO of Armoza Formats, commented, “The Surprise Teacher offers the opportunity to bring the younger generation back to TV, due to its exploration into the passions and life experiences of both celebrities and high school students. We are looking forward to working with Avanti to create a local adaptation and are thrilled to have signed the show’s first deal with them.”
