CJ E&M revealed its fall 2018 content lineup, packed with series of reboots, blockbuster dramas, and variety shows.

Grandpas Over Flowers
The globally acclaimed series is finally back in three years. After having been re-translated in number of local versions in China, USA, and Europe, the four famous elderly actors once again travel overseas to fulfill their bucket list. Spearheaded by acclaimed producer Na Young-seok, Grandpas over Flower returns in June on CJ E&M’s flagship channel tvN.

New Journey to the West
Another original series by producer Na Young-seok, New Journey to the West already awaits the start of its fifth season. Staring variety show stars Kan Ho-dong, Eun Ji-won, Lee Su-geun, boy band WINNER member Mino and many more, New Journey to the West season 5 kicks-off on September.

Mr. Sunshine
One of tvN’s most anticipated drama titles of 2018, Mr. Sunshine launches in July, with a star studded cast including world renowned actor Lee Byung-hun, Kim Tae-ri and many more. The new blockbuster series is written by screenwriter Kim Eun-sook and directed by Lee Eun-bok who also worked together on CJ E&M’s mega hit drama Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.

Memories of the Alhambra
Fantasy melodrama Memories of the Alhambra is another highly anticipated drama to launch this fall. The story is set in a hostel located in Spain as number of unexpected incidents unravel upon the main characters. Renowned actors Hyun Bin and Park Shin-hye are set to gear up to star in the new production.

Produce 48
The third season of music survival reality show Producer 48 launches in June, with high anticipations to continue last year’s Producer 101 syndrome. A collaboration project between Japan’s top record producer Yasushi Akimoto, the founder of Japan’s top idol group AKB48, and CJ E&M’s original hit platform and directors of Produce 101 series, Producer 48 will be the first ever Korea and Japan collaboration program to debut an international female idol group.

Galileo
A science fiction variety show, where the casts execute a number of bizarre science experiments at a Mars research station in USA, in order to experience what it is actually like to be in Mars.

Way to Ithaca (working title)
Through only using the limited capital earned from the hits on their Youtube clips, two artists go on a musical journey from Turkey to Greece Ithaca busking along the places they visit.

The Great Escape (working title)
Mystery variety show The Great Escape revolves around a group of star participants that are thrown a set of enigmatic clues to solve in order for them to escape from a solitary maze. Variety show star Kang Ho-dong is planned to star in the show.

CJ E&M officials said, “Our continued adaption of mega-ip series such as Grandfathers Over Flowers and New Journey to the West season by season will enhance our competency in the market” and he added, “We will work together with global media partners to diversify our growth and revenue model, and aim to become one of the top content players in the industry.”

Meanwhile, after the merge with CJ O Shopping due on July 1st, CJ E&M plans to extensively exercise future content and commerce collaboration projects to enhance the value of the company’s original contents and IP.
