HGTV, Endemol Shine prep Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
US cablenet HGTV (Discovery-owned network) is reviving renovation series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition with an order of 10 new episodes. The channel has also acquired the rights to broadcast 100 episodes of the original series, which ran for nine seasons on ABC from 2003 to 2012.

The show sees a whole home renovation for a deserving family. In the original Endemol Shine-produced series, the family chosen had recently faced some hardship to do with their home, such as losing it in a natural disaster. Changes to interiors, exteriors and landscaping are performed in a week, while the family is on holiday. If the house is beyond repair, the makeover team replaces it entirely. Though details of the cast are under wraps, HGTV will showcase its own experts in the weekly race to complete the renovation.

The new episodes are expected to premiere in early 2020. Endemol Shine North America will produce, with president of unscripted and scripted Sharon Levy and DJ Nurre, executive VP, unscripted original series, serving as exec producers.

Discovery has been building on its HGTV brand in recent months, having entered discussions with the team behind its hit show Fixer Upper over the possible creation of their own network, and greenlighting Unspouse My House, which sees a designer revamping houses for people who have become newly single.
