Avi Nir, CEO at Keshet Media Group, has said the company’s mysterious forthcoming reality show is part of an attempt “to reincarnate reality TV and broadcast networks.”
Nir confirmed the existence of reality show 2025, which will be based on achieving “social currency” in a sparsely populated ‘city’ that has been built in Tel Aviv for the show, at Natpe Miami last week.
Few details have been revealed but the show will feature contestants befriending “humanoid hosts,” with their relationships then forming that will become a “significant part of the format’s new form of storytelling.”
Speaking at Natpe, Nir said: “We’ve been working on this show for about 18 months now,” adding that it is “both about the future of reality television, the attempts to reincarnate reality television and broadcast networks. The idea in the beginning was how does a broadcast go back to the discourse, how does broadcast really resonate with the Israeli public or throughout the world,” Nir said. “And we realised we wanted to do a 24/7 show. We took the best creators we have, and we worked and we tried. It was very ambitious because we tried to create a new world, a new game, even a new storyteller.”
Inspiration for the show has come from dramas such as Black Mirror and The Truman Show, and it will air in Israel in the coming weeks.
