Cooking show Masterchef returns to TVI for a 13 episode series. Following a three year hiatus host Manuel Luis Goucha will be at the helm with chefs Rui Paula, Miguel Rocha Vieira and Nuno Bergonse as judges.
Fifteen contestants will face all kinds of challenges and will travel throughout Portugal trying the best dishes of the countries deep culinary tradition.
MasterChef is the worldwide smash hit show that sets out on a nationwide quest to find the best amateur cook in the country. The show pushes contestants’ culinary skills to the limit on a life-changing journey where only one will be crowned the nation’s MasterChef.
The MasterChef format launched in 1990 in the UK and aired for over a decade on the BBC. In 2005 the format was revived for the BBC as ‘MasterChef Goes Large’, and four years later Australia became the first country to adapt the format outside of the UK with MasterChef Australia launching in 2009 as the highest rated show in Australian history.
There have now been more than 60 local versions of MasterChef produced, airing in over 200 territories. Watched by 300 million people globally MasterChef is a no.1 rated show from the UK to the US, Australia, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Israel and beyond. In 2017 the format was officially crowned the Most Successful Cookery Television Format by Guinness World Records.
MasterChef has transformed the lives of more than 100 ex-contestants who have gone on to be professional chefs, including UK series one winner Thomasina Myers who co-founded the Wahaca restaurant group and has written and co-edited seven cookery books and become a cookery TV presenter; and Adam Liaw who won the second season in Australia and went on to become the author of five cook books, and host television series Destination Flavour, which won the 2016 AACTA award for best lifestyle TV show.
Many well-known faces have appeared on MasterChef from number of guests including Dalai Lama, Michelle Obama and The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall to some of the world’s best chefs such as Nigella Lawson, Gordon Ramsay, Heston Blumenthal, Rick Stein and Marco Pierre White.
The MasterChef brand extends into a global range of successful commercial activities across multiple platforms including publishing, consumer products, live events, gaming and travel experiences.
