The broadcast of La Tosca opera composed by Puccini on Saturday December 7 was a success with almost 3 million viewers tuned to the show in 3 acts.
Arte, ZDF and Rai presented it as Teatro La Scala officially opened on December 7.
The broadcast, which will also be shown in movie theaters, starred Anna Netrebko in the title role, Francesco Meli as Cavaradossi, and Luca Salsi as Scarpia. Riccardo Chailly conducted the performances with Davide Livermore directed a new production which opens the 2019-20 season.
The production is the fourth time Netrebko opens the Teatro alla Scala and her fourth broadcast with the company. Meli appeared in a broadcast of “Giovanna d’Arco” during the 2015-16 season while Salsi appeared on opening night during the 2017-18 season in “Andrea Chénier.” Both broadcasts also starred Netrebko.
