CJ ENM orders the 3rd season of The Voice of Korea to premiere in its affiliate music channel, Mnet. The third season of the ITV Studio’s original music format in Korea will be called The Voice of Korea 2020, and it will air 7 episodes, starting from May 29th.
Based on the Dutch talent competition format, it will show top musicians as coaches who will choose their teammates blindly based only on the contestants’ voices, and help them develop into top vocalists. The contestants will then compete with each other for the final winner. Top artists Kim Jong-kook, BoA, Sung Si-kyung, and Dynamic Duo have joined as the blind judge coaches, and they will evaluate the participants’ singing skills. Jang Sung-kyu will hold the mic as the host.
The previous seasons of The Voice of Korea have founded top artists who are currently leading the K-pop industry, such as Sonnet Son and U Sung-eun.
CJ ENM's Acquisitions Manager Hyungeun Rhee commented that “we are grateful to work with our partner to shoot this wonderful show again. The Voice has been a successful format worldwide because there are no boundaries in languages when it comes to music. CJ ENM have shown strength distributing music formats, such as I Can See Your Voice, 300: War of United Voices and Love at First Song, worldwide. On the other hand, if we spot great music formats travelling worldwide, we do not hesitate to import and introduce them to Korean audience as well, which in this case was bringing The Voice back to Korea."
Sangjun Park, producer at Mnet earlier mentioned that “it is refreshing to have a new season after seven years. All of us are having harsh times this year and I strongly believe that the program would be a great chance to share comfort and deep impressions with everyone.”
The Voice is part of the Voice franchise, consisting of The Voice (2010), The Voice Kids (2012) and The Voice Senior (2018) currently has a total of 121 adaptations across the globe, making it the biggest and most successful format brand in the non-scripted global marketplace to date. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of The Voice.
