Amazon Prime Video announced the forthcoming Spanish adaptation of its comedy variety format LOL: Last Laughing. The upcoming series will be presented by the acclaimed actor, writer, director and producer Santiago Segura (Father there is only one, Torrente).
The six-part Amazon Original series will follow a group of comedians as they compete to be the Last One Laughing. For six hours, there is only one rule: if you laugh, you lose. The last comedian to remain straight-faced will be the winner and will be able to donate €100,000 to a charity of their choice. The involved stars will each bring diverse comedic styles to the series: from stand-up, character, improvisational and physical comedy and more.
LOL: Last One Laughing (LOL: Si te ríes, pierdes) is due to launch next year exclusively on Amazon Prime Video and will introduce audiences in more than 240 countries and territories to some of the best comedic talent in Spain. Spanish adaptation follows versions in Japan, where it originated (Hitoshi Matsumoto Presents Documental); Mexico and Australia.
In Spain, the series will be showrun by Miguel Martín and produced by Banijay-owned EndemolShine Iberia.
“It fills me with pride and satisfaction that a service with the prestige, category and 'possibilities' of Amazon Prime Video has thought of me to present this indescribable comedy program”, said Santiago Segura. “I don’t know if I’m trained, but the contract is already signed”.
“We’re thrilled to be working with such a talented actor and creator as Santiago Segura who continues to bring great energy to Spain’s comedy scene”, said María José Rodríguez, Head of Amazon Originals, Spain. “There has never been a show like this before in Spain, and we think Prime members are going to love seeing Santiago and the amazing comedians go wild and test each other’s limits in the pursuit of laughter”.
“This is the first time that our comedians have faced a challenge like this: making each other laugh, while trying to control their own laughter at the same time. It is an honor for us to develop this Amazon Original format in Spain and make a contribution in exporting the best Spanish talent throughout the globe”, said Miguel Martín, EndemolShine Iberia showrunner.
