Written by Ana Paula Maia and directed by Carlos Manga Jr. (Aruanas), Unsoul marks Globo’s debut in the universe of supernatural thrillers. The thriller takes place in a small and mysterious town with Ukrainian colonization, where an event from 30 years ago returns to haunt the people. In this thriller, full of mysticism, the mysteries multiply into an enigma that is hard to decipher, until the surprising revelation of how they are connected. Unsoul stands out due to its aesthetics, with a cinematography that resembles the landscape of the Eastern European countries, as well as dealing with local legends. The product premieres in Brazil this month and the production of the second season was already announced.
The contemporary romantic comedy All the Women in the World, written by Jorge Furtado and directed by Patricia Pedrosa, celebrates love in all its forms. Light, poetic, involving and fun, the narrative tells the story of bohemian Paulo (Emilio Dantas, of Edge of Desire and A Second Chance), a man passionate for freedom, for poetry and for all women in the world. Graduated in architecture, but a poet in his heart, he throws himself heart and soul in each of the relationships he experiences, falling in love, in each episode, with each of the women – with their histories and differences – in his own way. But he experiences grieving in the same intensity when he is abandoned by these women. However, even when in love with others, he recognizes that his heart belongs to Maria Alice (Sophie Charlotte, of Fina Estampa and Iron Island), a young ballerina who decides to live in Germany after an unsuccessful attempt of a life as a couple with the architect. And it is to his two best friends, Cabral (Matheus Nachtergale, of ‘Jailers’) and Laura (Martha Nowill, of ‘If I Close My Eyes Now’), that Paulo confides about is love adventures, at the same time that he looks for comfort for his disillusionments. The miniseries is a tribute to the poetry, genius and humor of the Brazilian playwright Domingos de Oliveira, who passed away last year, at 82 years of age, and left an extensive portfolio of works that celebrate love, life and art with originality.
The other bet by Globo among series for MIPCOM 2020 is in the police thriller genre. In this sense, the series Anti Kidpnapping Unit and Renegade Archangel are two productions that captivate the audience with vibrant stories, dynamic scripts, that portray the issues faced by current society, with much realism and action. Created by José Junior and directed by Heitor Dhalia, Renegade Archangel tells the story of Mikhael (Marcello Melo Jr., of Time to Love), a violent and incorruptible police officer leading Arcanjo, a police team. After leading a clandestine intervention in a slum that ended in a massacre, he is transferred to another city, to be away from the action. With a nose for crimes, he ends up annoying the local organized crime and decides to take revenge, being in direct conflict with powerful people who lead schemes in the upper circles of politics in Rio de Janeiro. The series is a co-production of Globoplay and Multishow with AfroReggae Audiovisual.
As for Anti Kidpnapping Unit, directed by Vicente Amorim, it is marked by a script with intense pace, full of surprising turns and strong hooks. The story takes place in the end of the 1990s, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, when a great wave of kidnappings leaves the city cornered by violence. The secretary of security in the city, a former general from the dictatorship and the police chief, a militant socialist, gather and call three corrupt cops and a police inspector famous for being genocidal to save the city from criminals, from the police, and from itself. The series is produced by Globoplay in partnership with Afroreggae Audiovisual, Multishow and Hungry Man.
