BBC Studios Distribution announced today that it has licensed the Love Productions format, The Great Bake Off to streaming service HBO Max in Latin America.
Produced by WarnerMedia Latin America, who previously adapted local versions of the format in Argentina and Chile, The Great Bake Off will be the first original unscripted production for the streaming service in Mexico. The 10-part Mexican adaptation of this feel-good competition will be a celebrity version, with famous local faces competing to be crowned best celebrity amateur baker. The series is currently in production in Mexico City.
The agreement will make Mexico the fifth Latin American country to adapt this popular format after a deal was concluded with Canal 4 In Uruguay earlier this month.
Licensed to countries such as Brazil, France, Spain, Morocco and Slovakia, The Great Bake Off sees passionate amateur bakers compete to be crowned Best Amateur Baker. Over the course of the series the audience follows the trials and tribulations of the competitors, as they attempt to prove their baking prowess. Each week the bakers tackle a different baking skill, which become progressively more difficult as the competition unfolds.
André Renaud, BBC Studios’ SVP Global Format Sales said: “We’ve seen a strong appetite for big brands like The Great Bake Off in the region, and I am thrilled that this latest agreement with HBO Max will be our fifth local adaptation in Latin America. Viewers are hungry to find feel-good and entertaining content across new platforms and services and our flexible approach at BBC Studios means that we work closely with our partners to bring incredible formats like this to a wider audience. I’m confident that The Great Bake Off will become a firm favourite with Latin American HBO Max subscribers.”
