This new event will take place on October 29, 2021 at the French Institute in Beijing, where 40 buyers and professionals are expected to attend.
The call for candidates sent out by UniFrance to its members got 41 program proposals and 15 rights holders, with a selection of 15 titles for the audiovisual department of the French Embassy in China.
“For the past 3 years, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan together represented the 3rd export market for French animation, behind Germany and the US”, said Sarah Hemar, Deputy Managing Director of UniFrance, in charge of audiovisual and digital activities. “But the competition remains harsh, and this type of initiative that we are carrying out with the French Embassy in China, along with our participations – either remotely or in person – in international markets throughout the year, is extremely precious”, she continued. “This second showcase in 2021, this time for animation, is a unique opportunity for Chinese buyers, distributers and producers to discover on the big screen new series which have enjoyed success in France. These have been selected in relation to the very specific expectations and codes of Chinese viewers. It is also an opportunity to discover the 2nd, 3rd and 4th seasons of series whose 1st season has been acquired by Chinese platforms”, said Tania Khali, audiovisual attaché at the French Embassy in China.
