New singing competition The Box of Talent was this fall’s biggest hit in Belgium, right up until the end of its suspenseful final episode last Saturday.
Airing in the Saturday night primetime slot on VTM, the show already kicked off on a high note with a 58.8% share in the key demo (18-44, consolidated) and stayed at the top of the ratings throughout its first season. The live final last Saturday captured more than a million viewers, and a massive 64.6% market share (18-44, Live +VOSDAL).
The show, including its online spin-off, was the #1 most-watched program on the AVOD platform VTM GO. It averaged 245,741 views per episode, which is an increase of 514% against the average views of 40,000 for other programs on the platform.
On ‘The Box of Talent’, appearance and vocal talent are both key to kick-starting a singing career. During the nerve-wracking auditions, four judges -- all famous singers -- are seated in two separate boxes. The two judges in the first box can only see the talent. While the two judges in the other box are only able to hear them sing. Both teams must be convinced enough to press their buttons. Then it’s up to the studio audience to see if a talent deserves one of the ten golden seats. The ten talents left on the golden seats together with 5 golden ticket winners continue to bootcamp. This is the last stop before the all-decisive studio shows. With less golden seats each week, resulting in a suspenseful knock out race to determine which talent ticks all the boxes and is crowned the winner of the Box of Talent!
