Mediaset Distribution, the sales arm of Mediaset Group, has sold the format rights of Back to school in Germany. The local production company Cheerio Entertainment titled the show Zurück in die Schule and it will be aired by SAT.1 next August 24th. The prime-time entertainment show will be presented by Jörg Pilawa.
In each episode four celebrities will each face a real elementary school exam. They are tested on one subject they have prepared during a summer camp, as well as a "surprise" subject. During the summer camp, real students become ruthless teachers for the celebrities. Who will pass the final exam?
Former Federal Minister for Family Affairs Senior Citizens Women and Youth, Dr. Kristina Schröder, is among the participants, as are presenter Sonya Kraus, TV host Britt Hagedorn, journalist Marcel Reif, actor Wotan Wilke Möhring, singer Patrick Lindner and actress Janine Kunze. They first receive lessons from the mini-teachers before going to the exam. The curriculum basically provides for seven subjects: art, music, science, sports and, of course, mathematics. German and English grammar as well as local and general knowledge are also taught and tested.
The show aired in Italy on January 4th prime time Italia 1 channel is produced by Blu Yazmine for Mediaset Group. The first episode reached almost 2mln viewers with an audience share of 9.8%, above the average share of the channel, while the commercial target group reached a very good audience share of 13.62%.
Claudia Marra who handles the format rights for Mediaset Distribution is excited to see this first adaptation on SAT.1 Germany: “I am very happy with the success of this format that is collecting interest worldwide after its first presentation at Miptv “Fresh around the world” in April. Everyone likes the idea of mini-teachers having to do with celebrities in an entertaining reversion of roles. After lockdown and sad things continuing to happen, a show that will reunite family and large target groups of all ages for a good moment of relax and fun. I guess we really need it.”
