Hit Turkish drama series Ömer and Golden Boy have both been renewed by local broadcaster Star TV: they will return with new seasons already this Autumn.
Ömer premiered in January 2023, performing impressively and attracting a large audience, particularly in the AB commercial demo, where the series regularly ranks at the top of the ratings and more than doubles Star’s average share. The story centres on Ömer, whose life is turned upside down when he falls in love with Gamze, but unfortunately this is a relationship that his conservative father will never approve of: Gamze is a middle-aged woman and a struggling single mother, while Ömer is much younger than her. Over time, Ömer and Gamze try to overcome the strict rules and the conflicts that both of their families put them through. But many obstacles turn their love into an impossible one… The series stars Gökçe Bahadir, Selahattin Pasali and Baris Falay.
Family drama Golden Boy launched in September 2022, and since then it remains the most watched drama series across all channels each week in Turkey, with audiences regularly exceeding 10 million viewers each Friday. International distributor Eccho Rights has now licensed the series to more than 40 territories worldwide, with many more deals currently in the works. This is the story of two sisters, Seyran and Suna, whose lives change forever when golden boy Ferit decides to marry Seyran instead of Suna: Seyran will be the new bride in a family full of betrayals, lies and secrets. The series stars Afra Saraoğlu, Mert Ramazan Demir & Çetin Tekindor.
Handan Özkubat, Director of Turkish Drama at Eccho Rights, said: “The success of these two series reflects that romantic dramas remain a top draw for audiences. But both of these series come with a twist on the traditional love story setups, that elevate them into must see primetime viewing.”
Both titles are produced by OGM Pictures, the team behind a string of high concept, top-rating drama series in recent years, with such series as My Home My Destiny, The Red Room and Chrysalis all becoming long running, returning hits and international sales successes.
