Having just announced the series’ ratings success in Israel on Reshet 13, Ron Leshem, one of the creators of Red Skies, the 8x50 minute drama series, announced that the action-packed drama series took top honors last evening at TV Series Festival Berlin by winning the “Best Drama Series Award” for 2023. The award was presented to the creators of the show, as well as the leading cast members, both Arabs and Jews who were in attendance together, by the director of the festival Mark O. Dreesen, alongside the jury members. Also, in attendance was of the Israeli ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor. This announcement follows the series’ win last week at the Global India International Film Festival in which Red Skies also took home the “Best Drama Series Award.”
“Since premiering earlier this year at Series Mania, the response for Red Skies has been truly overwhelming. From the ratings in Israel, where the show is solidly the most watched series on all VOD platforms in the country, and now to these two big wins in Germany and India, we could not be more pleased,” commented Leshem. “The deep emotional engagement in this true story of love, friendship, and espionage, made the show into a true TV event, so we are thrilled to start our journey to the international audience”.
The win at the TV Series Festival Berlin for Red Skies, which is based on the best-selling Israeli novel of the same name and inspired by true events, was unanimous with jury members commenting:
Benjamin Benedict (Jury President 2023, Producer W&B TV):
“Red Skies is an extraordinary achievement. Extremely powerful storytelling that is original, emotional, and gripping. Surprising, intense, and much more. Congratulations to everybody involved in making this outstanding series."
Wiebke Andresen (Jury Member 2023, Producer Studio Hamburg/Letterbox):
Red Skies is an important example in the current times that creativity can overcome political differences and create great shows. An Israeli-Palestinian team has created a gripping and moving action-drama series that creates understanding for both sides and is sure to captivate audiences".
Andrea Guo (Jury Member 2023, Actress The Swarm):
"I truly love the courage to tell this critical story visually, which I learned is also related to the best-selling novel. The stunning cinematography, the great, authentic performances by the actors and the overall tension one can feel all the time make it a truly amazing experience to watch.”
Olgu Caglar (Jury Member 2023, CEO actorsgarden):
“Kudos to the creators for their bold storytelling and for sparking important conversations about the pursuit of harmony and coexistence in the Middle East. The acting performances in Red Skies are nothing short of exceptional, bringing the characters and their stories to life with depth and authenticity. The talented cast delivers powerful and nuanced portrayals, capturing the emotional complexities and personal struggles faced by individuals in the midst of political turmoil.”
