The 7-part period drama series Mary & George, starring Academy Award winner Julianne Moore (Still Alice) and Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White & Royal Blue), is about a treacherous mother and son who schemed, seduced and killed to conquer the Court of England and the bed of King James I. It will tell the true story of Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham who “shaped her beautiful son George (Galatzine) to seduce King James VI of Scotland, also known as James I of England, and become his powerful lover.” Between scandals and intrigues, the duo of humble origins thus became the richest, most titled and influential mother-son couple in England, as well as the most trusted advisors to the king. “If I were a man and I looked like you, I would rule the fucking planet,” she says at the end of the teaser.
The show is set to debut in North America as a STARZ original in 2024 and on Sky and streaming on NOW in all territories where Sky is present in Europe. Mary & George is created by playwright D.C. Moore and produced by Hera Pictures in association with Sky Studios. NBCUniversal Global Distribution handles international sales on behalf of Sky Studios.
