Shtisel, the popular and multi-award-winning drama that helped launch the international careers of Shira Haas (Bodies, Unorthodox and yes Studios’ upcoming Night Therapy) and Michael Aloni (Beauty Queen of Jerusalem, Scenes from a Marriage), is being made available on Amazon Prime Video in the US.
The deal is for all three seasons (33 x 45’), with season one debuting on the platform on16th January. This news comes hot on the heels of Shtisel also launching last month on global Israeli content platform IZZY plus Jewish storytelling platform ChaiFlicks (initially in the US, Australia and New Zealand).
Shtisel follows the daily lives and loves of the extended Shtisel family, a warm, closely-knit and argumentative ultra-Orthodox family living in modern-day Jerusalem. Created and written by Ori Elon and Yehonatan Indursky, the series became a global phenomenon when it first aired on Netflix, offering unique insights into Haredi society. Shtisel is produced by yes TV and Abot Hameiri Barkai for yes TV. The series won 17 Israeli Academy Awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Script, Best Actor (twice) and Best Actress.
Sharon Levi, managing director of yes Studios comments: “With its endearing characters and compelling look into everyday life in an ultra-orthodox community, Shtisel has quickly become an addictive and binge-worthy series wherever it has been made available. Its reputation and huge word-of-mouth support means that it is in constant demand, so we are excited to now introduce the Shtisel family to a whole new audience through this latest partnership with Amazon, as well as the recent deals with IZZY and ChaiFlicks.”
In related news, yes Studios can also confirm that IZZY has recently acquired three more of its titles. Drama Just for Today (9 x 45’), winner of the Special Jury Prize at Series Mania in 2019, launched on IZZY on 28th December, with romantic comedy Who Died? (10 x 30’) and season one of The Chef (9 x 40’) due to drop later this month. In addition, yes Studios’ Fire Dance (8 x 50’), the first TV series from acclaimed filmmaker Rama Burshtein-Shai and a 2022 Series Mania winner (Best Actor), will debut on ChaiFlicks in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand in early 2024.
