At Le Rendez-vous Le Havre (September 2-6, 2024), Mediawan presented its latest comedy-crime series, Tom and Lola, produced by DEMD Productions and written by Camille Couasse and Sarah Farkas, the 12-episode series will air on France Télévisions, delivering a unique blend of humor and crime drama.
Tom and Lola follows the lives of two best friends turned co-workers. They are both police officers but with vastly different temperaments. Lola, a hot-headed captain at the PJ, is a single mother raising two children, while Tom, a calm and collected officer from the STUPS unit, finds himself at a personal crossroads when his wife asks for a divorce. Seeking support, Tom moves in with Lola, and their lives become intertwined in unexpected ways.
During the premiere, we spoke with Randall Broman, Head of International Sales Scripted at Mediawan Rights, who shared his thoughts on the show: "Tom and Lola follows in the footsteps of our other successful procedural show, Tandem. It comes from the same creative team, and they truly understand what it takes to create an entertaining TV show. The chemistry between the two central characters is brilliant—they’ve been friends since childhood, but now they face new challenges, working together and sharing their home. This creates a perfect backdrop for the mix of comedy and crime drama, offering a lighter take on police procedurals."
Broman emphasized the unique appeal of the series, which draws on the characters' personal struggles to balance their professional lives as cops and their domestic lives as single parents. "This whole situation provides the smiles and lightness to the show, and we hope audiences will enjoy watching how Tom and Lola navigate this unusual living arrangement."
