WBITVP has announced 20 new formats for MIPCOM
WBITVP has revealed 20 new formats for autumn 2024, which will be introduced to the international market at MIPCOM later this month.

The slate covers reality, entertainment and factual entertainment genres, as well as scripted formats, and incorporates iconic content brands, innovative twists on established hits and one very entertaining and utterly compelling physical competition show.

Leading the slate: new food formats:

24 in 24: Last Chef Standing is a high-stakes culinary marathon, hailed as the world’s toughest cooking competition. Created by Lando Entertainment for Food Network and Max, it puts 24 chefs through 24 non-stop challenges over 24 hours. The competition pushes contestants to their physical and mental limits, with unexpected twists and difficult techniques introduced as exhaustion sets in. The show launched in April 2024 and was a hit, leading to a second season already in production.

Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking merges culinary creativity with the magical world of Harry Potter. Created by Warner Horizon Unscripted Television for Food Network and Max, this unique format features pairs of pastry chefs and cake artists who compete to create magical desserts on the iconic sets of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. The creations are judged by a panel that includes professionals and actors from the Harry Potter films.

Cook Once, Eat Twice, based on the series featuring Nadiya Hussain, focuses on reducing food waste by showing how ingredients can be used more efficiently. Produced by Wall to Wall Media for BBC Two, it encourages viewers to transform leftovers into exciting new dishes without sacrificing flavor or quality.

New Entertainment and Reality Formats
Fast Friends celebrates the 30th anniversary of the iconic sitcom Friends. This Warner Horizon creation for Max combines a game show with an escape room challenge. Fans of the show must navigate through familiar sets while proving their knowledge of Friends trivia, culminating in a final showdown on the famous Central Perk sofa.

Human vs Hamster
, from A. Smith & Co. Productions, is an amusing and unique physical competition show where hamsters take on humans in a series of extraordinary challenges. This quirky format, launched as part of WBITVP’s partnership with Magnolia Network, highlights creativity in competition.

Second Chance Stage
, also part of the Magnolia partnership, gives performers who had to abandon their dreams a second opportunity to make it big in a talent show format. Another highlight is Roller Jam, a nostalgic competition searching for the best roller-dancing crews, created by Nikki Boella and Brain Lando.

The Golden Bachelorette is the latest addition to the Bachelor reality universe, where an older woman seeks a second chance at love by choosing from 25 mature male contestants. Following the success of The Golden Bachelor, this format taps into the growing popularity of romance-focused reality shows for older generations.

Jungle Dads, created by Twenty Twenty for Channel 4, is a social experiment that takes modern, risk-averse dads into a remote jungle to transform them into more adventurous role models for their children, under the guidance of a high-profile adventurer.

The List, created by the team behind The Inspired Unemployed Impractical Jokers, is a comedic travel challenge format. Each episode sees two comedians sent to a new country with a “nightmare list” of tasks to complete, such as training with Japanese monks or facing off against bears in Finland. The format is fast-paced, unpredictable, and loaded with awkward yet hilarious moments.

The Repair Shop: On the Road takes the beloved experts from The Repair Shop across the country to restore local, large-scale projects that can’t be transported to the barn. Produced by Ricochet for BBC Two, it’s a celebration of heritage crafts set in stunning landscapes.

Driving Lessons, produced by Dahl TV for NPO3 in the Netherlands, is an observational documentary that follows a group of driving instructors and their diverse students. The show captures the ups and downs of learning to drive through a variety of candid and intimate moments.

What’s the Big Deal?, produced by Ricochet for Channel 4, is a consumer affairs show where a celebrity host investigates trendy products, from weighted blankets to sourdough bread, to determine if they’re worth the hype.

Brides in Business
, from Blu Jazmine for Discovery Italy, follows brides-to-be competing to win the perfect second-hand wedding dress, with one dress per episode getting a complete transformation by an expert.

My Dream Green Home, produced by WBITVP New Zealand for TVNZ, taps into the eco-friendly living trend. The show is a home makeover format offering stylish, affordable solutions for people looking to create greener homes.

Refreshed and Rebooted
House Hunters, the long-running HGTV series, has been reinvigorated for Australia by WBITVP. In this refreshed format, local real estate agents help individuals or families find new homes to rent or buy.

Back to the Frontier, from Wall to Wall Media for Magnolia Network, takes three modern families back in time to live on the American prairies in the 1880s, reviving the original living history format The 1900 House.

New Scripted Formats
Styx is an eight-part crime series with a horror twist, based on Bavo Dhooge’s best-selling novel. Produced by Eyeworks and Hollands Licht for VTM/Streamz in Belgium, it promises a mix of dark crime drama and supernatural elements.

All and Eva, a light-hearted drama from WBITVP Sweden for Viaplay, follows a woman who falls for her sperm donor, though he believes they met by chance and has no idea she is pregnant with his child.

Planet Eldorado, an eight-part comedy-drama from WBITVP Finland for Elisa, is set in the 1990s during the rise of the Internet. It follows a teenage geek who forms a friendship with an anonymous online user, mistakenly believing she is the girl of his dreams.

Andrew Zein, WBITVP’s EVP of creative, format development, and sales, highlighted that the company’s reputation for delivering world-class, adaptable formats is well-reflected in this new slate. From creative cookery competitions to family-friendly shows and reality formats, WBITVP’s 2024 lineup offers something for everyone, tapping into current trends and audience preferences across genres.
