This season tells the stories of the two protagonists, Elena "Lenù" Greco and Raffaella "Lila" Cerullo, that are now adults, having led lives full of events, discoveries, setbacks, and "rebirths." Both have fought to escape their hometown neighborhood, a prison of conformity, violence, and unbreakable ties. Elena has become a successful writer; she left Naples, got married, then separated. She has two daughters and now returns to Naples to pursue a rekindled love from her youth: Nino Sarratore. Lila, meanwhile, stayed in Naples, entangled in family and criminal ties. Yet she has built a surprising career as a tech entrepreneur and wields her fascinating, charismatic influence as the hidden yet genuine leader of the neighborhood—a role that ultimately brings her into conflict with the powerful Solara brothers. Through the trials life presents, both women continually discover new aspects of their personalities and their friendship. Meanwhile, the history of Italy and the world unfolds in the background, forcing the two women and their friendship to confront and adapt to a changing world.
