The event miniseries, Leopardi - The Poet of the Infinite, directed by Sergio Rubini in his television directorial debut, is set to premiere on Rai 1 in prime time on Tuesday, January 7, and Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

Co-produced by Rai Fiction, IBC Movie, Rai Com, and Oplon Film with support from the Apulia Film Commission and Marche Film Commission, this period drama offers an unprecedented portrayal of Giacomo Leopardi, one of Italy's greatest poets. Filmed across Italy, from Recanati and the Marche to Bari, Puglia, Mantua, Turin, Rome, Naples, and Bologna, the series highlights Leopardi’s timeless relevance while remaining faithful to historical accuracy.

Leopardi’s extraordinary genius fueled not only romantic passions but also political ideals, as he challenged the status quo, including the Austrian invaders, the Church, and the founders of the nascent Italian state.

Central to the narrative is Leopardi’s quest for love, which leads him beyond the confines of his aristocratic home. His infatuation with the aristocratic Fanny Targioni Tozzetti becomes a defining element of his life and literary output. Equally significant is his profound bond with his devoted friend Antonio Ranieri, which helps Leopardi confront the physical challenges that plagued him throughout his life.

Premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, Leopardi - The Poet of the Infinite is written by Carla Cavalluzzi, Angelo Pasquini, and Sergio Rubini. The production boasts cinematography by Fabio Cianchetti, set design by Francesco Frigeri, costumes by Maurizio Millenotti, sound by Mirko Guerra, and editing by Giogiò Franchini.
