Production company LA MODERNA, in collaboration with UK-based sales house Videoplugger, announced that the acclaimed Spanish series Matriz has been acquired by Italian streaming platform UAM.TV.
Created by emerging Spanish talent Paula Foncea, Matriz is a six-episode (6x25’) comedy-drama that blends humor and realism, offering a deeply personal yet universally relatable story.
The series follows Paula, a filmmaker returning to Madrid from London for what seems to be a career-defining opportunity: shooting a major film in Spain. However, an unexpected political scandal uncovered by her friend Marina—a well-known journalist—upends the production. As Paula reconnects with her close circle of friends, she finds herself staying in Madrid far longer than planned, navigating a whirlwind of challenges and personal revelations.
At its heart, Matriz is a love letter to urban life and chosen family, addressing pressing issues such as job insecurity, press freedom, real estate speculation, and mental health, all through a witty and heartfelt millennial lens.
Since its premiere in 2023, Matriz has garnered critical acclaim, winning Best Series at FICIMAD and earning selections at over twenty international festivals, including Apulia Web Fest, Bilbao Seriesland, 35 Festival de Cine de Girona, BUEIFF Series, and the Lebanese Independent Film Festival.
