Curated by the Festival's artistic team, the ten nominated titles were selected for their artistic merit and broad audience appeal. Among them, The Deal stood out, impressing a high-profile jury of international buyers with its powerful narrative and timely subject matter.
At the Series Mania Buyers Upfront, Katie Keenan, Group Director of Acquisitions at Sky, UK/Europe, presented the Buyers Choice Award to The Deal, alongside an international jury of top industry executives from Mediaset Spain Director of Cinema, Fiction, Ghislain Barrois, RAI Cinema Marina Chiaravelle, Movistar Plus+ Rubén Fernández Loa, ZDF, Julia Fidel, and Arte Virginie Padilla.
“The jury and I were very impressed with the variety of genres and the quality of productions for the titles that were presented this afternoon,” commented Keenan. “We chose The Deal as the winner as it is a very timely drama given the state of world affairs, which adds to its market appeal. Alongside the dynamics of diplomacy and the tension it brings to the drama, there were also human and personal stories that we are certain will unfold.”
The Deal is produced by Bande à Part Films, Les Films Pelleas, Gaumont Télévision, Bidibul Productions, Versus Production and distributed internationally by Gaumont. The 6-part drama-thriller that follows Swiss diplomat Alexandra Weiss during tense 2015 nuclear talks. As global powers negotiate fragile peace, Alexandra’s past resurfaces in the form of Payam, a former lover and endangered Iranian engineer—forcing her to choose between duty and emotion.
