All3Media International with Botswana Ignite has revealed the premier trailer for the first African adaptation of Two Brothers Pictures’ hit scripted format Liar. This adaption is also the first time one of All3Media International’s scripted formats will be produced in Sub Saharan Africa.
This new premium production is currently concluding post, with delivery of the 6-part series complete in early April 2025.
Featuring a stellar African cast led by Motsoaledi Setumo (Known for Showmax’s The Wife and Netflix’s Soweto Love Story) and Maxwell Dichi (known for long running series Generations and Muvhango), the production wrapped principle photography in November 2024, filming on location in Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana.
Duncan Irvine, the Programme Director of Botswana Ignite noted “This has been a groundbreaking achievement for Botswana to adapt Two Brothers Pictures’ globally successful Liar format into a first for the African continent. There is an exciting pool of young filmmaking talent here in Botswana that fuelled the creative drive to produce a uniquely compelling African version of this powerful and universally relevant story.”
Lizzy Ribeiro, Sales Executive at All3Media International commented, “We are thrilled our brilliant partners at Botswana Ignite have delivered such a premium adaptation of our global hit scripted format Liar, which is receiving positive feedback from the African market. It’s brilliant that the compelling scripts and powerful themes of consent and modern-day gender politics of the original version have attracted leading African talent both on screen and behind the screen, and especially exciting to see Botswana Ignite’s government-initiated industry programmes coming to fruition.”
Liar Africa will premiere on a Pan African streamer followed by local terrestrial broadcasts starting on BTV.
Botswana Ignite is a film and TV industry development programme initiated by the Botswana Government in partnership with Steve Harvey Global, and facilitated on the ground by veteran producers Duncan and Kee-Leen Irvine.
Originally produced in the UK by Two Brothers Pictures for ITV, Liar explores themes of consent and modern-day gender politics, as it portrays the experiences of two people whose initial attraction has far reaching consequences. 15 versions of Liar have been commissioned with versions launching in India, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Greece, Slovakia, Turkey, Malaysia and Georgia.
All3Media International's scripted formats have seen notable success. The Malaysian version of Liar won Best Adaptation of an Existing Format at the Asian Academy Creative Awards last year. This year, Angela Black premiered in Spain on Atresmedia, while previous successes include Masoom, the Indian adaptation of Blood, which launched as Disney+ Hotstar’s top Hindi series. Additionally, Mithya (the Indian version on Cheat) and Kafkas (the Indian version of Dark Money) both have received wide spread critical acclaim and awards recognition.
