Centro Medico, the scripted reality series from Zebra Producciones in Spain has been renewed by TVE for a ninth season, bringing the total number of episodes to over 1000.
Based on Belgian format The Clinic, from Tuvalu, Centro Medico was first introduced to Spanish audiences in 2015 when international distributor Eccho Rights struck a deal with Zebra for a first season based on the original scripts.
This first season provided such a strong improvement for TVE in the difficult access prime slot that the series was immediately renewed, and has been recommissioned for at least 2 seasons per year ever since.
“The Clinic is a simple but hugely effective format, taking real life medical cases, shooting on location and allowing each story to play out as in real life, providing gripping and emotional storylines every day,” says Nicola Söderlund, Managing Partner at Eccho Rights.
The Flemish original, De Kliniek, ran to 95 episodes on VTM and provided the channel with its best audience figures for the access prime slot in over 10 years. In addition to Spain, Eccho Rights has optioned The Clinic for remake in France, Italy, Finland and Ukraine.
