NENT Group goes Commando with drama
Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) has teamed up with Norwegian director Per-Olav Sørensen on a new military drama inspired by true events for Scandinavian streamer Viaplay.

Eight-episode Commando recalls the events in 2011 when Norwegian F-16 fighter jets dropped nearly 600 bombs over Libya. The build-up to the bombing and its aftermath are explored through the stories of four women: a pilot, a journalist, a possible terrorist and a prime minister.

The series is directed by creator Sørensen (Nobel) and produced by Trond Håndlykken Kvernstrøm for The Oslo Company and Anders Tangen for Viafilm. It has been written by Jenny Lund Madsen (Follow the Money) and Christian Spurrier (Spooks).

“The immediacy, urgency and powerful visual language of Commando, including extensive first-person footage from inside an F-16 jet, showcases [Sørensen’s] abilities to the full,” said Jakob Mejlhede Andersen, NENT Group executive VP and head of content. Sørensen added: “Telling this story from four very different perspectives is an approach I hope will be both interesting and disturbing. The series aims to entertain but also to provoke and enlighten.”

NENT Group has been ramping up its scripted work recently, with this latest order following on from last month’s commission of Danish crime drama Face to Face (Forhøret), also for Viaplay. The Stockholm-based firm also recently launched a UK prodco with US outfit FilmNation Entertainment to produce and finance premium scripted content for global broadcasters.
