Next year there will be great news about series for the streaming giant Netflix: Zero and Bridgerton (w/t).
Zero is the first Italian TV series with an Italian black guy as protagonist. The author Antonio Distefano Dikele explains: "I hope this can open a door to those black actors, creatives and artists who haven't had an important opportunity yet. I hope this story tells about other stories of many kids, regardless their skin color”.
After Suburra and Baby, Zero, another italian production on Netflix, is coming. It’s produced by Fabula Pictures, an production company led by Nicola and Marco De Angelis, with the collaboration of Red Joint Film. Shooting will begin in 2020. Zero is the protagonist of the series, he's a second generation Italian African boy like the novelist Antonio Dikele. The series is inspired by his fourth novel "I never had my age" (winner of the Fiesole Award in 2018). He has a superpower: he sees beyond the reality of things and the true relationships between people. The story is set in the suburbs of Milan, described through the language of rap music and Dikele knows very well this topic. Dikele is supported by team of authors such as the cartoonist Menotti (Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot), Stefano Voltaggio, Massimo Vavassori, Carolina Cavalli and Lisandro
Monaco.
In 2017 Shonda Rhimes and Netflix signed a deal. Bridgerton is the first costum series, expected for 2020. It’s produced by Shondaland, production company of cult series like Grey's Anatomy and Scandal. The show is based on the saga of successful historical novels by American writer Julia Quinn. Set in London's high society of 1800, it tells the particular and intricate stories and conflicts during the Age of Regency. Bridgerton’s family is composed of a widowed mother, her 8 children and the events are focused on them. Julie Andrews, the legend of the stage known for masterpieces like Mary Poppins, will be the narrative voice of the saga. Starring Phoebe Dynevor and Regè-Jean Page with Jonathan Bailey, Golda Rosheuvel, Luke Newton, Claudia Jessie, Nicola Coughlan, Ruby Barker, Sabrina Bartlett, Ruth Gemmell, Adjoa Andoh and Polly Walke.
