Endemol Shine International announced they have secured a deal with ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE in Germany for the global smash-hit British period drama series Grantchesterfor SAT.1 GOLD. The deal was negotiated by Endemol Shine International’s Sales Director – Germany, Matthew Hodges and includes Seasons 1 – 4 along with the Christmas Special.

Grantchester is a stylish period crime series deeply rooted in the very real world of Britain in the 1950s. Sidney Chambers played by James Norton (McMafia, War and Peace) is the Vicar of Grantchester, a small village just outside Cambridge. Sidney’s is a quiet life, or at least it was – right up until the moment that murder came his way. Aiding the investigations of his best friend, Detective Inspector Geordie Keating played by Robson Green (Strike Back), Sidney is caught up in crimes of passion, murderous plots and unexpected tragedies.

In Season four James Norton, makes his final appearance as Vicar Sidney Chambers and Tom Brittney (Outlander, Call the Midwife) joins the cast as Reverend Will Davenport – man of the people and new crime-solving partner to Geordie.

Alongside Sidney, Will and Geordie as they journey into the dark world of murder is the naive, but well-meaning curate Leonard Finch (Al Weaver, The Hollow Crown) and housekeeper Mrs Maguire (Tessa Peake Jones, Doctor Who).

A co-production between Kudos, part of Endemol Shine UK, and MASTERPIECE for ITV, Grantchester is distributed by Endemol Shine International and has sold across 176 countries. Adapted from the Grantchester Mysteries novels by James Runcie, the series was developed for television by Daisy Coulam and written by Daisy Coulam and John Jackson.

The fourth season aired on ITV in January of this year where it ranked No.1 in its slot, with the peak of the series achieving a consolidated average audience of 5.46 million viewers and a 22.9% market share. The commissioning of Season 5 was announced just prior to the US launch of Season 4 on 14th July 2019 and is currently in production.
